Ivermectin for cancer in dogs and cats. Most people were told not to consider it. But new research is looking at drug repurposing, and the science is shifting.
In this video, I break down a new laboratory study on ivermectin plus metformin for canine breast cancer. Researchers found both drugs reduced cancer cell growth. When combined, they showed a stronger effect by targeting the mTOR pathway, a key driver of uncontrolled cell growth in cancer.
We also discuss ongoing human clinical trials using ivermectin in difficult cancers like triple negative breast cancer. This is still early research, but it raises important questions for veterinary oncology.
I explain safety concerns, especially MDR1 gene deficiency in Collies, Australian Shepherds, and other herding breeds. We cover why genetic testing matters. I also review suggested dosing parameters being explored, always under veterinary supervision.
This is not a miracle cure. But for lymphoma, osteosarcoma, and other serious cancers in dogs, new tools matter.
If your dog has cancer and you are exploring options, this is information you should know.
