Fat Freddy's Drop Studio Mash Up

Kia ora, open up the door, we’ve got the key to a new Freddy’s studio. After more than a decade at BAYS in Kilbirnie, Freddys vacated the building in 2025 because it was due to be demolished. BAYS was the homebase for recording Blackbird, BAYS, Special Edition Part 1 and SLO MO albums, mastering LOCK-IN and WAIRUNGA, and many many jams, darts and cook ups. We packed up the memories, got the gear in storage and MU & Nicole found an inner city location that resonated with elements of our early daze in Ghuznee and Haining streets. MU and a crew had started work on the new studio before he suddenly passed away last July. Getting it finished, with heaps of support, gave us a reason to keep moving forward. MU’s vinyl collection, turntable and BOATS back up drives were amongst the first deliveries. The kitchen is cooking, and we’re finding our groove in a new environment, cooking up new vibes in the next Freddys chapter.
