Trump Admin Building Case For War With Cuba

U.S. intelligence officials told Axios this morning that Cuba has stockpiled more than 300 attack drones supplied by Russia and Iran over the past three years. Cuban officials have reportedly been discussing using them against three potential targets — Key West, the Guantanamo base, and US Navy ships in the region. Key West is 90 miles from Havana. Here's where you have to pay attention. The Axios reporter wrote, in plain English, that the senior official admitted the intelligence — quote — "could become a pretext for U.S. military action." That's reporter-speak for: hey, this might be a setup for war. Reuters picked up the story and could not independently verify it. This week alone — CIA Director Ratcliffe flew to Cuba last Thursday. On Wednesday, the DOJ will unseal an indictment of 94 year old Raúl Castro for a 1996 plane shootdown, dropped on Cuban Independence Day. More sanctions are being teed up. Anonymous officials are leaking classified intelligence to one outlet. US Navy drones have been openly orbiting Cuba since April. This is the same script the administration ran on Venezuela in the months before the January raid that removed Maduro. The reality check, buried at the bottom of the Axios piece, is a senior official admitting — quote — "No one's worried about fighter jets from Cuba. It's not even clear they have one that can fly." So Cuba can't get a fighter jet off the ground. But somehow they're a national security crisis worth a war. We've seen this movie.
