Description
Well, we're back with another health update, and this week it's a double feature. Just when we thought Kira's paw was on the mend, we ended up at the urgent care. And a few days before that, we had to take Memphis in for a mysterious new skin spot. Welcome to the chaotic reality of a multi-dog household!
In this video, we're sharing everything that's been happening. We'll break down Kira's follow-up visit for her paw that isn't healing properly, including the skin scrape and culture test we're sending off for analysis. We also detail Memphis's new bacterial skin infection, which might be a hot spot, and explain the topical treatment plan we're using to avoid oral antibiotics due to her liver issues. Through it all, Eleanor is here to provide the chaos and remind us she's perfectly fine!
We believe in being transparent about the realities of owning dogs, both the fun and the stressful parts. Sharing our journey helps us process everything, and we sincerely hope our experiences can help even one other person out there navigate a similar situation with their own beloved pet.
🐾 KIRA'S URGENT CARE VISIT (Paw Not Healing) 🐾
- Problem: After two weeks on antibiotics, Kira's paw injury was not healing and started looking worse.
- Diagnosis: The vet performed a skin scrape and a culture. The initial scrape suggests a possible fungal infection, but the culture has been sent to Michigan State University for a definitive answer.
- Treatment: We are starting her on a new medication to target a potential fungal issue while we await the culture results in about 7 days.
🐾 MEMPHIS'S VET VISIT (Skin Infection) 🐾
- Problem: Memphis developed a crusted-over spot on her side where the fur began to fall out, likely a bacterial skin infection that may have started as a hot spot from the recent humidity.
- Diagnosis: A skin scrape confirmed a bacterial infection.
- Treatment: To protect her liver, we are avoiding oral antibiotics for now. Her treatment includes antibacterial wipes, silver sulfadiazine cream twice a day, and baths with a medicated shampoo.
