Description
G'day all!
Welcome to my Victorian High Country Mini-Series. Come along, and we'll show you that you don't need to do these really difficult, challenging or extreme 4wd tracks to experience some of the best sights the High Country has to offer.
Starting of in Jindabyne, we make our way south of the border, to experience some of the best sights of the High Country. We travel through some of the best spots and towns, including Orbost, Bruthen, Dargo, Hotham, Omeo, Falls Creek, Bright, Mount Buffalo, Mansfield, Mt Stirling and Geehi.
We planned to take in some Easy, scenic 4wd tracks around the High Country, as well as visit some of the magnificent Alpine Huts, scattered around Alpine and High Country.
This trip had a mixed bag of everything. Rain, wind, thunder, heavy fog, sun. Everything, but the snow! A true High Country experience. The temperatures were quite warm. Very warm! Especially for the mountains, and this was especially noticeable climbing up, and then back down into the valleys, where the temps were often 8-10 degrees warmer.
In episode 2, we head of from Woods Point campground, and head into Buchan for a bit of sightseeing. We then headed into Bruthen for a well needed coffee, before heading up the Great Alpine Road, through the Tambo Valley, to Swifts Creek.
By now, it was time to head of the black top, and we hit the Dogs Grave track, from Swifts Creek to Dargo. The track had some great High Country history, with a visit to a monument for a cattledog by the name of Boney, and a sensational lookout on the Summit of Mount Birregun. Rocky, Rough, steep, with some great, sweeping views of the surrounding mountains, this was a great track!
We then headed into the Dargo Valley, and setup camp behind the iconic Dargo Hotel, and then spent the night with some beers and a pub feed to cap of an awesome day in the mountains.
Enjoy!
