Description
In 1991, engineer Yoshimi Kanemoto conceived the idea for a functioning vehicle built entirely inside a piece of luggage. He and a team of six other engineers from the manual transmission testing group brought it to life for an in-house Mazda competition focused on creative mobility. The prototype was constructed using a large, hard-shell Samsonite suitcase and components sourced from a pocket bike. It featured a 40cc, 1.7-horsepower two-stroke gasoline engine.
Assembly required no tools and took about one minute. The user would pop the front wheel through a hatch in the front, slot the rear axles and wheels onto the sides, and attach a seat above the rear axle. It featured handlebars with a twistgrip throttle, disc brakes, a rear differential, headlights, turn signals, and a horn. Weighing 32 kilograms, the three-wheeled machine could reach speeds of 30 kilometers per hour. #mazda #microcar #japanesecars
