India Enters Global Chip Race with New Semiconductor Plant

India has taken a major step forward in its technological ambitions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating a new semiconductor manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat. The plant marks the beginning of commercial production at one of India’s key semiconductor packaging units and is a crucial milestone under the India Semiconductor Mission. The facility will manufacture advanced intelligent power modules used in automotive and industrial systems, strengthening domestic capabilities and reducing reliance on imports. It will also cater to global clients, including Alpha and Omega Semiconductor, reinforcing India’s position in the global supply chain.
