Description
In this video, I’m debunking three BIG misconceptions I hear nonstop in K–12 schools:
✨ Myth 1: Dyslexia means you see letters backwards
Nope. Dyslexia is primarily a language-based learning difference, not a vision problem. Some kids might reverse letters sometimes (especially when they’re young), but that’s not the core issue and it’s not the best way to understand dyslexia.
🧠 Myth 2: ADHD means you can’t focus at all
Spoiler: not quite 😅 Many people with ADHD can focus deeply on the right thing. The challenge is often controlling where focus goes, shifting it when needed, and regulating attention across tasks (especially boring, repetitive, or multi-step tasks).
📚 Myth 3: IEPs and 504s are unfair
Solid no. ✅ Supports like accommodations and specialized instruction are about access, not advantage. An IEP or 504 helps a student meet expectations by reducing barriers so their skills can actually show up.
If you’re a parent, teacher, or student trying to make school make more sense (and feel less frustrating), this one’s for you 💛
