Description
Riding mules through extreme, technical terrain is where their strengths truly shine, especially in rugged red rock country, slick rock trails, steep canyon descents, and rocky backcountry routes. In this video, we’re trusting our mules on technical mule trails, navigating slick rock, exposed ledges, steep drops, and uneven canyon terrain that demand careful footing, solid training, and total confidence. This kind of terrain is exactly why we choose mules over horses when the trails get steep, technical, and unforgiving.
Before unloading and hitting the trails, we take time to explore ancient history along the way, including dinosaur tracks, petroglyphs, and pictographs carved and painted into canyon walls hundreds of years ago. Riding through country this old puts everything into perspective. This land has been traveled by wildlife, Indigenous people, and outlaws long before modern roads ever existed.
We’re riding alongside Ty Evans, working through confidence-building obstacles and rock hopping exercises designed to prepare mules for even more demanding terrain ahead. Starting in the canyon bottoms allows less experienced mules to build confidence before tackling steeper, more technical trails on the canyon rims.
From sure-footed mule riding and extreme trail challenges to camping in remote red rock country, this ride is all about slowing down, trusting your animal, and choosing the right partner for the job. If you’ve ever wondered why mules excel in technical terrain, slick rock, and backcountry travel, this ride shows exactly what makes them nature’s original 4x4.
