Description
Reporting from Beirut on April 9, 2026, UNICEF's Christophe Boulierac describes the devastating and inhumane impact of intensified hostilities on the lives of children in Lebanon.
On April 8, in less than 10 minutes, over 100 air strikes killed hundreds of people, just as a ceasefire was being discussed in the region. In Beirut alone, several neighborhoods which had never been targeted before were suddenly bombed, killing 33 children and injuring 153.
In a hospital room, Boulierac speaks with a mother whose 10-month-old son, Ahmad, was injured in the wave of bombardments. She says she no longer feels safe anywhere. Her older son, 3-year-old Khaled, flinches at every sound.
UNICEF staff continue to reach children in urgent need of support in Lebanon, delivering emergency supplies in convoys of armored vehicles, even as drones drop bombs along their route. Some colleagues have traveled in these convoys almost every day since the beginning of the conflict. "Objectively speaking, they risk their lives every day," Boulierac says.
UNICEF and colleagues are working around the clock to provide humanitarian support for children in Lebanon. More help is needed.
