Journalists grill Keir Starmer as Trump pressures Britain over Iran

At a press conference this morning, the Prime Minister was repeatedly pressed on how the UK will protect consumers as the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked and global energy markets remain uncertain. Starmer insists the UK will not be dragged into the conflict, stressing that "this is not our war", while reiterating that the government is focused on shielding households from the worst of the impact. He confirmed that energy bills are currently down by around £100 on average due to measures introduced at the last budget, and said that support will remain in place in the short term. However, he refused to rule out a planned fuel duty rise later this year, saying the situation is being kept under constant review as the conflict develops.
