While filming, I spoke with an elderly merchant who shared a beautiful story about why this market is called “Haramhaneh.” He explained that in the past, high-ranking officials and ministers used to live and gather in this area. Whenever their carriages (known as faytons) passed through, the local shopkeepers and tradesmen were expected to respectfully turn their faces away, so they wouldn’t look inside the carriages. From this tradition, the name Haramhaneh was born.
