We’re inside a New Jersey hotel where homeless families are being placed. In this video, we meet a mom and her two kids who have been living here for months. This isn’t short-term shelter. It’s a hotel room with roaches, flooding, sewage smells, and unsafe conditions for children. She isn’t looking for sympathy. She’s looking for a way out. She worked two jobs. She qualified for help. She even found an apartment that would cost less than what the county is paying for this hotel. But without help covering first month, security deposit, and childcare, she’s stuck. Her son was born premature and has ongoing health issues, making stable housing even more critical. This is what homelessness looks like for families. Not a lack of effort. Not bad choices. A system that spends more money keeping people trapped than helping them get housed. Hotels are not housing. And until we treat them as such, families like this will keep paying the price.
