Description
As part of the over arching G20 Summit, a number of gatherings were held with global leaders on a number of issues across the country. In October, an international bi-lateral gathering, presided over by the Ministry of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, focussed on reducing the risk of disaster caused by weather events. During the event, South Africa presented what is the first of the G20 countries to have developed a roadmap for the global initiative, Early Warnings for All. The aim is to ensure every person in the country is alerted to severe weather conditions with potential hazardous impacts. This roadmap was announced as part of the G20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group meeting that was held at Somerset West in the Western Cape.
