Crude Prices Jump 4% As Iran-US Exchange Missile Strikes Over The Weekend; Precious Metals Decline

Crude oil prices jumped after the US and Iran exchanged fresh strikes, with the sides offering conflicting statements on whether the Strait of Hormuz remains open to shipping. Brent crude oil price rallied 3.88% to $78.96 a barrel, while the US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude spiked 4.01% to $74.27. Meanwhile, gold prices declined after the renewed US-Iran war stoked inflation fears and raised the prospects for interest rate hikes. Spot gold prices dropped 1.2% to $4,072.78 per ounce, while US gold futures for August delivery fell 0.8% to $4,081.70.
