What started as a cosmetic renovation of the 1740s home quickly turned into a "complete internal gut," requiring new heating, plumbing, and air conditioning. Opening up the kitchen alone "took a year of engineering to figure out," she told the Wall Street Journal. Barrymore joked the experience was like living "The Money Pit."
