Newborn labradoodle puppy secrets | Trailblazers Ep 02

Our Trailblazer labradoodle puppies are one week old today, and this update takes you inside these important early days. This all-girl litter is thriving, and in this video we walk through exactly what’s happening in their first week of life. Mandy is doing beautifully as a new mom, and we talk about the diet and nutrients she needs right now to support healthy milk production and steady puppy growth. You’ll see why her nutrition matters so much during this stage. We also cover the basics of newborn puppy development: why their eyes and ears are sealed shut at birth, what they actually do during the first week (eat, sleep, repeat), and what their very first milestone looks like—doubling their birth weight. None of these girls have doubled yet, which is perfectly normal at this point, and all are well on their way to reaching that mark by day ten. I also share a quick reflection on an article I read suggesting dogs mirror our emotional states. While that’s partly true, I explain why I disagree with the idea that dogs simply reflect our mood. In my experience, dogs consistently soften our edges, lift our spirits, and help regulate our anxiety. They don’t just mirror us—they make us better. From there, we take a look at each of the puppies individually. Their leathers now have enough pigment to confirm their colours, and I go through each girl’s weight and progress. At the end of the video, we pivot to what our families can start doing now: choosing the outdoor door they’ll use for house training, setting up puppy-free zones, and beginning to think about a meaningful name for the newest member of their family.
