Kalayaan Hall, Malacañan Palace
March 4, 2026
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Dave Gomez officially launched Oplan Kontra Fake News where he led the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the country’s nine (9) leading newspapers, strengthening their cooperation and commitment to promote transparency, media literacy, fact-based reporting, and responsible information sharing. The MOU signing with Business Mirror, BusinessWorld, Daily Tribune, Malaya Business Insight, Manila Bulletin, Manila Standard, Philippine Daily Inquirer, The Manila Times, and The Philippine Star took place at the Kalayaan Hall in Malacañan Palace on March 4, 2026.
“Disinformation thrives in darkness — in confusion, in distortion, in deliberate deceit. But truth has always been like daylight. And just as a magnifying glass focuses sunlight to reveal what is hidden, this collaboration concentrates the light of verified information, sharpening clarity and exposing falsehoods. In shining that light, we dispel the shadows where fake news attempts to hide,” said PCO Secretary Gomez in his remarks.
As part of the initiative, the PCO launched the Anti-Fake News Desk, a platform where citizens can report suspicious or misleading content for referral to appropriate agencies. Likewise, the Agency will collaborate with Meta and Google to coordinate efforts against disinformation campaigns and enhance accountability in the digital space.
