NASAâs James Webb Space Telescope has turned its Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) toward Sagittarius B2, one of the Milky Wayâs most massive star-forming regions â and the result is breathtaking.
Released on September 24, 2025, this new image reveals glowing cosmic dust heated by very young, massive stars hidden deep inside the cloud.
MIRIâs mid-infrared vision cuts through dense gas and dust to expose the cloudâs filaments, cavities, shock fronts, and dense clumps where future stars are forming right now.
Sagittarius B2 is located near the Galactic Center, making it one of the most extreme star-birth environments in the Milky Way. Webbâs sensitivity allows scientists to study how stars ignite, evolve, and reshape their surroundings â at a level of detail never seen before.
