New FERRARI 296 SPECIALE! First Look at the Baby F80

This is the brand new FERRARI 296 SPECIALE! Join me for a first look at Ferrari's latest addition to the lightweight special series models, and a rebirth of a familiar name. With my 296 GTS for comparison, we'll take in the details about the new hardcore variant, plus the Speciale A too! Many media, owners, and those lucky to drive a 296 GTB or 296 GTS have come away saying that it's one of the best road cars that has been made to date. However, the sequence of special models that begun with the Challenge Stradale, before continuing through 430 Scuderia and 16M, 458 Speciale and Speciale A, and then 488 Pista and Pista Spider has now evolved to a take on the 296 platform. This time around, the 3.0 litre twin turbo V6 jumps up 37hp to 700hp; which is combined with the additional 15hp from the electric motor for a total of 880hp over the standard 830hp, with torque also increasing by 15Nm to 755Nm. This makes it the most powerful RWD production Ferrari model, over the Daytona SP3 hypercar, and can accelerate from 0-200km/h in a mere 7.0s. Visually the design is dialled up as expected, with a 20% increase in downforce over the GTB to 455kg at 250km/h. This is thanks to a new aero damper on the front end, side wings that frame the tail, and updates to the active rear wing. 60kg is taken out of the weight to a dry total of 1,410kg, with a stripped out interior and the Best Weight seats that launched with the SF90 XX. With my own 296 GTS for comparison as a base, let's run through all the changes, discuss the potential impact on the best parts of the 296 in the regular form, and understand where it fits into the line-up of super sportscars from Maranello.
