Trucker on the phone caused accident. Some time last year while hauling gravel on a short run, a friend of mine was struck by a distracted driver in another truck. He had entered the highway safely and was accelerating, when the other driver in the delivery van truck struck the back corner of his gravel trailer. When the police arrived at the accident, the other driver explained to the police he had been looking at his phone and failed to notice the gravel truck and trailer. Distracted driving is a common problem, and as a commercial driver you see into the cabs of both passenger vehicles and big trucks. People looking at their phone is extremely common. One of the saddest things (in my opinion) is children glued to screens instead of watching out the window at the REAL world and using their imaginations.
