A Desperate Struggle to Free an Untamed Skeleton Coast Seal

It is absolutely heartbreaking to watch an animal fight this hard against the very people trying to save its life. Today on the rugged Skeleton Coast, this entangled seal desperately tried to escape our team at all costs. In a blind panic, he slipped down the jagged rocks and became wedged in the tight gaps between them, all to avoid capture and what he believed, in his mind, was certain death. The Skeleton Coast lives up to its remote reputation. This is an incredibly isolated wilderness where these seals have almost zero contact with civilized human interaction. To them, humans are apex predators, and they expect nothing but harm from us. We might be the rare exception on this beach, but there is no way for a terrified, suffering seal to know that we came to take his pain away and set him free.
