People living with HIV and hepatitis B experience legal problems at far higher rates than the general population — and it’s not because of the virus itself. In this video, Scientia Associate Professor David Carter from UNSW Law & Justice explains how the law and legal systems can create everyday challenges for people living with blood‑borne viruses, affecting their wellbeing, healthcare, work, and daily life. Drawing on research from Health + Law, a partnership between academics and community organisations, David Carter explores how legal rules, policies and practices can either support or harm people’s health and quality of life.
