This is just my opinion. Rule number one: keep your colours simple. I personally love pastel tones, but I usually stick to three colours maximum. If you think about it, a newborn baby is essentially nude, which already gives us a beige tone in the image. So in most setups, I only introduce two additional colours to keep everything soft and balanced. Rule number two: layer your props. Stacking props slightly helps create depth in the image. When the baby is lifted a little away from the background, it separates the subject and makes the photo look much more dreamy and dimensional. And rule number three: don’t overdo the flowers. Too many flowers can easily overpower the baby, who should always remain the main focus. Usually 10 to 15 flower heads is enough. I like mixing different sizes, but keeping them within a similar style so the overall image still feels soft and wholesome.
