Description
Shabads are hymns or spiritual poems written by saints and mystics from different spiritual traditions of the Indian subcontinent. The shabads convey a deep message of truth and are sung with heartfelt devotion. They express the intense longing of the soul for union with the Lord. These songs of devotion are prayers that inspire the true seeker to turn inwards to contact the ultimate Truth – the inner divine music that reverberates within every being.
There is much love in this world; it has a myriad of flavours,
but the love that you have for your Satguru is the highest love of all.
The yogi, the wandering recluse, the white-clothed ascetic, the mendicant, the dervish –
without love, none will reach the true Guru’s inaccessible abode.
Without true love, there is no comfort. Without the pain of longing, there is no detachment.
Without the Guru, the blots and stains on the mind cannot be removed.
Love does not grow in the garden nor can it be bought in the marketplace;
whether king or subjects, understand this: those who long for love can have it only in exchange for their heads.
I have tried all remedies; none equals the elixir of love.
Even a drop flowing through one’s body transforms it entirely into gold.
This is the house of love – the way to it is subtle and inaccessible;
when one severs one’s head and tramples on it, only then may one savour the taste of love.
Holding the dice of love in the game, my body was made its counter;
the Satguru explained the moves and Kabir, the humble servant, played the game.
This shabad is published by Radha Soami Satsang Beas.
