What Were These Bees Thinking?

This is the part of beekeeping I can’t get enough of. 🐝 Watching a swarm like this, you’re not just looking at bees; you’re watching behavioural biology play out in real time. Thousands of individuals, all contributing to a single decision. 🐝 Every swarm is a puzzle. Scout bees are out searching, returning, communicating, competing… until the colony reaches a consensus on where to go next. 🐝 So why did they end up here? 🐝 Maybe they were aiming for the wall cavity, but the queen hadn’t found the entrance yet. Or maybe this was just a temporary stop while the decision-making process was still unfolding. 🐝 Would this swarm have stayed here if I hadn’t intervened? — © Hinterland Bees
