Colorado River Adventure: Camping, History & Mystery Most people blast right past these places on I-10, but they're missing some seriously cool desert history! I'm taking the backroads along the Colorado River from Quartzsite to Needles, and you won't believe what's hiding out here. First up - FREE CAMPING at Morgantown off Exit 5. Right on the Colorado River, zero dollars, killer spot for RVers and van lifers. Then I roll into Ehrenberg to walk through a pioneer cemetery where folks have been resting since the 1860s - these weathered headstones tell stories of the Old West you won't find in any history book. Crossing the river into Blythe, California, I cruise downtown then head north on US 95 to see something absolutely wild - the Blythe Intaglios. We're talking massive geoglyphs carved into the desert floor over 2,000 years ago. Ancient desert art you can walk right up to, and most people have no idea it exists. Final stop: Vidal, California, and Wyatt Earp's actual cottage. Yeah, THAT Wyatt Earp. The legendary lawman spent his final years right here in this tiny desert town, and you can see where he lived. This is winter desert travel the way it should be - off the interstate, into the small towns, finding the history and mystery hiding in plain sight.
