Hunting Long Gully Sometimes Makes Me Sad

Every time I go back to Long Gully it is a bitter-sweet memory. This is where I taught a keen young man to hunt. That keen young man we named Smash because he smashed through the gorse and blackberry with nothing but a bush shirt, shorts, gumboots, and a smile. Patrons and good bastards alike contributed to getting him decked out in boots, a hunting jacket, a raincoat, and a good knife but he never wore chaps or long because he said he wanted to be a tough man like hit granddad Pat. I have wonderful memories of teaching him the art of how to keep your knife razor sharp and knocking the skin off a deer or pig. Many hunts that ended in laughter and joy and plenty of meat for his church mates. I also have a sadness that sometimes hits me when I go back to Long Gully where Adventure Dan and I got him his first pig and this video is in that same gully...
