Massive crowds for leftist Peruvian pres. candidate

"Without democracy, there is no peace, no progress, no jobs, no dignity." Peru's progressive presidential candidate, Roberto Sánchez, of Together for Peru (JP) held a closing campaign rally in Lima, Peru on Thursday, June 4. Twenty-seven million Peruvians will head to the polls this Sunday, June 7, to decide who will be the country's next president. Sánchez will face off against far-right Keiko Fujimori, daughter of former dictator Alberto Fujimori, accused of perpetuating a series of massacres as well as the forced sterilization of thousands of Indigenous and peasant women. Keiko has also been embroiled in several corruption scandals.
