"LE PONT ALEXANDRE III" à PARIS

Le Pont Alexandre III est sans doute le plus monumental de Paris. Richement décoré, il enjambe avec une seule arche depuis 1900 la Seine, reliant le 7ème au 8ème arrondissement. C’est aussi l’un des plus beaux, de par sa situation, entre l’esplanade des Invalides d’un côté et le Grand Palais de l’autre, et de par son architecture. Construit par les ingénieurs Jean Résal et Amédée Alby, accompagnés des architectes Cassien-Bernard et Gaston Cousin, le Pont Alexandre III a été pensé dans le dessein d'accueillir l'Exposition Universelle de 1900. Ainsi, si la première pierre de ce symbole architectural fut posée le 7 octobre 1896 par le Tsar Nicolas II de Russie, l’Impératrice Alexandra Fedorovna et le Président Félix Faure, c’est après 4 années de dur labeur que le Pont Alexandre III sera finalement inauguré par le président de la République Emile Loubet le 14 avril 1900, à l’occasion de l’Exposition Universelle.
