Description
This gentle chicken stew is formulated specifically for dogs with Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI). The recipe focuses on highly digestible ingredients, moderate fat, and low fibre to support dogs that struggle to break down nutrients due to reduced pancreatic enzyme production. Designed to keep fat around 10–15% dry matter and fibre below 5%, this meal helps maintain energy intake while remaining gentle on digestion.
This batch provides approximately 1,000 kcal of food. If you want to know exactly how much your dog should eat, or need to scale the recipe up or down, the Drooli app calculates personalised portions based on your dog’s age, weight, and activity level and adjusts ingredient amounts automatically.
Please note: this recipe is not nutritionally complete on its own. To make it suitable for everyday feeding, we add Olli All-in-One Homemade Diet Supplement. If you’re not using Olli, you would need to provide the missing nutrients yourself. Per 100 g of this recipe, that means adding approximately 0.75 g calcium to bring the calcium-to-phosphorus ratio up to the minimum 1:1, 0.03 g chloride, 0.23 mg iodine, 0.37 mg manganese, 12.91 mg zinc, 6.14 IU vitamin E, 1.31 g linoleic acid (LA), and 20.54 mg choline to meet minimum requirements.
Ingredients (to make 1,000kcal):
400 g – Chicken breast
135 g – Potatoes (white)
100 g – Salmon
45 g – Courgette
35 g – Lamb pancreas
35 g – Chicken liver
32 g – Olli All-in-One Homemade Diet Supplement
12.5 g – Nutritional yeast
8.3 g – Antler powder
3.5 g – Ground turmeric
Directions:
1. Dice the chicken breast into small pieces. Finely chop the lamb liver and lamb sweetbread (pancreas), keeping the pancreas separate as it will be added later. Peel and dice the potatoes, finely dice the courgette, lightly whisk the egg, and chop the salmon.
2. Place the diced chicken into a pan over medium-low heat without adding oil. If the meat sticks, add a small splash of water. Cook gently until the chicken is almost cooked through.
3. Add the chopped lamb liver and cook for a few minutes. Stir in the whisked egg and cook until just set.
4. Add the diced courgette and cook briefly until softened.
5. In a separate pot, boil the peeled potatoes until completely soft. They should mash easily, and a fork should slide in without resistance.
6. Combine the cooked chicken mixture, flaked salmon, and boiled potatoes in a large bowl and mix thoroughly.
7. Allow the food to cool until it is no longer hot.
8. Stir in the nutritional yeast, antler powder, turmeric, and the chopped lamb sweetbread (pancreas).
9. Mix Olli with a small splash of warm water to form a paste, then stir it into the food.
10. Portion into containers. Refrigerate for 3–4 days or freeze for longer storage. Gently warm before feeding if serving from the fridge.
