The Day Niagara Falls Was Turned Off

Niagara Falls feels eternal but in 1969 humans briefly paused it. Engineers redirected the Niagara River using huge earth and rock dams so the American Falls could be examined and stabilized. For months people walked where water once crashed and geologists studied erosion up close. After the work was finished the dams were removed and the water returned within hours as if nothing happened.
