Description
A 200-pound green sea turtle named JP Saul was released back into the ocean on Thursday, March 6, after recovering from a flipper amputation.
Two fisherman spotted the injured turtle entangled in a stone crab trap off Seven Mile Bridge in Marathon, in the Florida Keys, last month and called up The Turtle Hospital for assistance, the rehabilitation center told Storyful.
JP suffered serious entanglement wounds to her front right flipper and was treated with broad spectrum antibiotics, fluids, pain medication, class 4 laser treatment, honey, DMSO massage, and critical wound care.
“Our medical team did everything they could to try to save JP’s injured flipper including leech therapy. Unfortunately the flipper had to be amputated,” The Turtle Hospital said in a statement.
After an “amazing recovery,” JP was returned to the water with the assistance of the US Coast Guard Station Marathon.
