Why Are We Burning Beehives?

In 2022, during the chaos of COVID, we moved our family to a small holding in the country — and unexpectedly found ourselves learning far more about beekeeping than we ever anticipated. What began with leftover hives on the property soon led us to look more closely at biosecurity enforcement, hive levies, and the official narrative surrounding American Foulbrood (AFB). In this video, we examine the claim that a bacterium was proven to cause AFB by fulfilling Koch’s postulates, the burning of hives under government order, and the rollout of a bee vaccine that failed to demonstrate protection against foulbrood itself. We explore alternative explanations for colony decline from a terrain perspective and question whether microbes are truly the culprit. Finally, we turn to honey itself. Is honey medicinal? Is Manuka honey really “anti-bacterial” in a meaningful way? Or is honey best appreciated for what it has always been — a simple, nourishing food made by bees?
