Celebrated at the twin Kottiyoor temples—Akkare Kottiyoor and Ikkare Kottiyoor—in Kannur district, it is one of the most revered festivals in North Kerala. The Akkare Kottiyoor Temple, the main venue, opens to devotees only during this period, from the Chothi star in the Malayalam month of Edavam to the Chithira star in Midhunam (May–June). Unique in its form, this temple has no permanent structure, with the deity enshrined on a natural stone platform. In contrast, the Ikkare Kottiyoor Temple, located across the river, remains open throughout the year.
