The Murky Underworld of Italian Banking

Lurking behind the scenes of Italy’s biggest financial scandal sat Propaganda Due, known as P2, led by Licio Gelli. Whilst officially a Masonic lodge, P2 was actually a covert network of senior figures in politics, the military and, of course, finance. Its illustrious membership included banker Michele ‘The Shark’ Sindona, future PM Silvio Berlusconi, and allies of Roberto Calvi. At its core was Gelli’s ‘Plan for Democratic Rebirth’ - a blueprint to reshape Italy by influencing the media, judiciary, and political system from within.
