Description

Our Akaso 360 Action camera review! Interested in filming your rides? There's a lot you can do with just an action cam and a removeable chin bar mount. See our recent video about filming tips. But if you want to take your filming to the next level then a 360 action cam can give you some very creative shots. The problem? The good ones are expensive. The Gopro Max 2 and Insta360 X5 are around AUD900 or USD600. A much cheaper solution? This Akaso 360 Action camera is less than half the price and an excellent entry level 360 camera. Let's look at the pros, cons, and whether it's a useful addition to your helmet cam. Welcome to Cross Training Adventure, we are into all things dual sport and adventure on the east coast of Australia. oom out for some weird effects. And if you buy a three metre carbon fibre pole you can get drone-like footage too. We bought these options which let you mount the selfie stick on various points of the motorbike. If you hit bumps the camera minimises rapid movements very well. In well lit conditions the video quality is excellent. I watched some comparisons with the premium cameras and there was not a huge difference. What is a 360 camera? It films absolutely everything using two lens. What are the Akaso 360 Action camera's negatives? In low light conditions the Akaso can struggle. When we filmed under very heavy cloud cover some noise creeped into the video. Akaso says the camera is splash-resistant, but not waterproof like the premium cameras. The camera overlaps the two videos so that your selfie stick disappears. You then import the video into Akaso's editing program and choose what to film. You can swivel to the left or right. Point straight up. The free video editing software makes the transitions very smooth. Point straight down. Z It's very easy to use. You can connect with your phone to start and stop recording and adjust the settings. The editing software is quite easy to use as well. Battery life is respectable at around 50 minutes. The best feature? It's simply good value for money. Keen on adventure riding in Australia? Check out our vids. Let's look at good stuff. The Akaso 360 Action camera feels solid with a quality build. The stabilisation is excellent. We checked a few of the review sites we trust and they all report this is the only quality budget option in 360 cameras. If you like dual sport riding in Australia then you might like our adventure riding vids. Ditto for ruggedness. The Akaso is less protected from impacts and dropping it. While the large touch screen is bright and easy to use, it can need two or three swipes sometimes to work through the menu options. The audio is a bit tinny. Once you are top gear the audio is frankly unusable. Although we suspect this will be the case with all the cameras when exposed to fast winds. For a lot of this video I've just cut and pasted audio from my Gopro camera instead. Be very careful not to scratch the lenses. You can carefully attach this to various parts of the motorbike to get creative angles. Ensure it can't slip off though. I would advise tethering if in doubt. It might look awkward, but I like mounting it on the helmet here which works quite well. Just remember this may be illegal on public roads. You have to send the camera back to Akaso to have lenses replaced. The latest premium cameras do have replaceable lenses. What else? Remember the resolution is only 5.3K. If you zoom in too much, the image deteriorates badly. The premium cameras are now 8K which means you can zoom in a bit more before the video is pixelated. This might sound like a long list of negatives, but it's just what you should expect when the Akaso 360 Action camera price is less than half of the Gopro and Insta360. Check out our reviews of various adventure bikes and dual sport bikes. Should you buy the Akaso 360? If you are already filming and editing a lot and just want to spice up your videos, it's an excellent idea. Ditto for this three metre carbon fibre pole! I purchased this waist mount and found drone-style videos were possible. Again, just be very careful to not scratch those lenses if you try these options. Then if you find yourself using the camera a lot, consider upgrading to the premium cameras after a year or so. Just remember it takes extra editing to get those cool angles! I suggest watching a video about how the editing is done and see if your inner geek will love it or not. Mounts. If you don't mind riding with one hand, you can get excellent shots just using the Akaso selfie stick. I highly recommend getting this mount. Interested in more info about the drone?
