Flying through a Tunnel Boring Machine!

The first of Western Harbour Tunnel’s two boring machines (TBMs), which will be the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere, has achieved a major milestone with successful Factory Acceptance Testing in Zhengzhou. In Australia, the Western Harbour Tunnel project is part of the New South Wales Government’s biggest hashtag#infrastructure program in history. A dedicated team from ACCIONA, Transport for NSW, The APP Group and manufacturing partner CREG Australia conducted comprehensive system checks. The project will deploy two state-of-the-art slurry TBMs to excavate twin 1.5km tunnels beneath Sydney Harbour in Australia. These machines feature innovative AI-driven technology, including automated cutter head replacement and advanced wear monitoring systems. The TBMs will streamline hashtag#tunnel construction, enhance operational safety, and represent some of the largest slurry tunnelling machines used globally.
