How to Replace Hood Shocks Mercedes-Benz - E, S, C, ML, CLK Class
Is your Mercedes hood refusing to stay up, or worse—falling on your head while you work? The hydraulic hood struts (shocks) eventually lose their gas pressure and need to be replaced. In this DIY tutorial, we show you the quick and easy process of removing and replacing the hood support struts on several popular Mercedes-Benz chassis.
The process is nearly identical for the E-Class, S-Class, C-Class, and CLK. We demonstrate how to safely support the hood, release the metal retaining clips, and snap the new struts into place. This is one of the easiest and most important maintenance tasks you can do to ensure your safety under the hood.
In this video, we cover:
Safety First: How to safely prop the hood so it doesn't fall during the swap.
Clip Removal: Using a small screwdriver to release the tension clips.
Service Position: Using the built-in Mercedes hinge lock to hold the hood at 90 degrees.
Installation: Snapping the new gas struts onto the ball joints correctly.
Testing: Verifying the struts can hold the weight and assist in opening the hood.
