Description

Recently there’s been a new drama involving glitch productions and the digital circus. This has caused some cinemas to remove the digital circus last act from their listings. What’s going on? Let me explain. So victa cinema over in australia put up a post the other day saying the digital circus will no longer be shown at their cinema because it’s now a limited release. They later updated the post, saying them and other cinemas sent booking inquiries to glitch over the past 3 weeks and got ghosted with no response. They found out through other operators that the film is “no longer available for booking”. Cameo cinema, another australian cinema said it won’t be releasing there because it’s again a limited release. Things went from bad to worse when it was announced that the film is being removed from korea. Over on twitter sbmne which is the distributor for the digital circus last act in korea put up a post saying there was a notice of contract termination with glitch productions. There is a temporary suspension of the release in the Republic of Korea. On the south korean internet forum dc inside, Son Wi-hyeok, CEO of SBMNE put up a statement. He said that he devoted himself to film distribution for nearly a month, and was incredibly happy when it was registered as an upcoming release after consultation with Megabox. However, Glitch informed them that they would unilaterally terminate the contract, and he has been crying since morning because of the fact that everything he did was meaningless. Glitch's current position is to cancel all domestic screenings, not to seek other distributors. They say that they cannot clearly disclose the reason for Glitch's contract termination at this time. In the comments of the post the reporter adds that the notification to cancel the contract came suddenly, it wasn’t very understandable, and they debunked the theory that netflix was involved. They also might try and get the money they spent back on things like promotion etc. So here’s my game theory on what i think happened. Basically it seems that something has changed with the way the last act is being distributed. This is why alot of cinemas are being ghosted or getting a response that it’s not available for booking anymore. Previously established contracts are being terminated, leading to it not showing in places it was previously booked to appear in. I especially feel bad for the distributor in korea, the post was quite heartbreaking to read. I really hope glitch comes out with a proper response to all of this, because i have a feeling things will continue to get worse. So what do you think? Did you see this situation unfold?
