If you’re a fan of F1 and watching the car launches, you’ll notice many cars have decent amounts of black on them this year. Alfa Romeo, Haas, Mclaren, Ferrari and others, have increased sections of black and the Mercedes is almost all black. The reason why so many teams are doing this is to save weight. These black sections aren’t painted, instead being exposed carbon fibre. With the teams wanting to squeeze out every gram on the car, not painting parts of the car helps get the teams under the 798kg weight this year.
