Description

After catching the Munford/Atoka test, I briefly met-up with a local railfan at South Tipton Siding on the CN Fulton Sub before I went off and snagged some lunch. After lunch, I went back up to that control point to catch a very slow empty CN coal train crawling into the siding there a bit before Memphis's test, though thankfully it got all the way into the siding and the crossing deactivated with enough time for me to make it to my target on this day about 10 minutes before the test. On this day, I decided to head for this Thunderbolt on top of the Journey Coleman School building on the north side of Memphis as it hadn't been filmed yet, and, of the remaining unfilmed 'bolts in the city it appeared to be the easiest of them to get. Admittedly, it seems the main issue with shooting this one was potentially a lack of good angles to film it from, but, thankfully, I was quickly able to find a pretty decent one that let you see the entire head, so I set-up my camera here. Thankfully, this one still sounds nice, loud, and healthy, which is always great to see. Like with many of Memphis's 'bolts, this one has also had its chopper swapped-out at some point, given how differently-colored it is from the rest of the siren. I will admit, I'm also quite glad I was able to get four Memphis tests in a row over these past few weeks. With this video, there are now only a grand total of three Thunderbolt sirens left within Memphis's siren system that have yet to be recorded! Sadly, it may be a bit for those to all be recorded, as one of them (Fire Station 13) is currently, at the time of writing this, down for maintenance and the other two (Hillcrest High School and Lausanne Collegiate School) are located in spots on top of school buildings that don't really have any publicly-viewable locations of them, or at least any that would be easy to access to film said sirens from. I suppose @CoolH99 or potentially another siren enthusiast in the Memphis area (or at least visiting the Memphis area) could drop an audio recorder or two at a location close to the two remaining ones on top of the school buildings (especially for the one on top of Lausanne Collegiate School), but either way Fire Station 13 will just simply have to wait until its confirmed to be repaired for it to be recorded. As such, on future Memphis tests, I'll probably be hitting-up other siren varieties in Memphis's system, especially those coded P-15s, along with at least one T-128 since I want to hear a healthy one at some point. I'll also be hitting-up some of the other, previously-recorded Thunderbolts in Memphis's system that are of interest to me as well. Memphis, TN's sirens are tested every Wednesday at 3:30 PM, *very strictly* weather permitting.
