Health officials say 15 cases of 'explosive' diarrhea parasite confirmed in Marion County

Cases of cyclosporiasis, a parasitic infection that causes "explosive" diarrhea and intestinal infection, have continued to rise this week. Marion County Health Public Department officials said Wednesday they had recently confirmed 15 cases, compared to four or fewer in previous years. Previous outbreaks have been caused by fruits, vegetables and herbs, like cilantro, basil, raspberries, snow peas and green onions, according to experts. Bagged salads have also previously been to blame for outbreaks.
