Description
Strait of Hormuz Crisis: Can Reliance on Local Gas Ends Circular Debt?
It saves $450 every month without creating shortage.
Tensions around the Strait of Hormuz have disrupted LNG shipping, raising concerns about energy supply and prices in Pakistan.
Ghayas Paracha, CEO, UGDC explains how LNG disruptions can bring $450 million advantage to Pakistan’s gas market and consumers, through price difference between local and imported gas. Domestic gas costs around $2.8–$2.9, while imported LNG delivered through Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority reaches about $13.2, with CNG prices going up to $16 and industry around $14. Using more local gas, he argues, could reduce Pakistan’s import bill by nearly 40% and help control circular debt.
