Description

This small seal pup was suffering immensely, and without immediate intervention, he wouldn’t have survived much longer. The culprit? A gill net. These horrific inventions are so destructive that they are entirely banned in many parts of the world, including here in Namibia. Yet, we keep finding them wrapped around our seals. Gill nets are the "spiderwebs of the ocean". Tthey blindly entrap everything in their path, from turtles and dolphins to seabirds and seal pups. Once caught, these animals are doomed. Because of the countless tangled strings cutting into his skin, this rescue took much longer than our usual "cut-and-release" missions. It is always incredibly difficult for our team when we know we have to temporarily inflict pain in order to save an animal's life. Some rescues just hit harder than others. But this little guy has an incredible fighting spirit. We are so hopeful he will fully recover and forget all about this ordeal soon. 🦭 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Please visit our website to find out more about our work and how to support us: ➡ Website: https://www.ocnamibia.org/ ➡ Donate via Paypal: https://ow.ly/BTm550PIavq ➡ Donate via Stripe: https://ow.ly/Xy1F50PIMzQ ➡ Support via Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/OCN ➡ FAQs: https://www.ocnamibia.org/faqs Follow us on social media: ➡ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/oceanconservationnamibia/ ➡ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/OCNamibia ➡ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@oc_namibia ➡ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/ocnamibia/ ➡ Twitter: https://twitter.com/ocnamibia 😊 Thank you for every like, share, comment and subscribe 😊 Ocean Conservation International is registered as a non-profit organisation under chapter 501(c)3.
