Today we’re going on a Thai street food tour at Talad Phlu (ตลาดพลู) to see how much we can eat all day for only $20!
Talad Phlu (ตลาดพลู) is one of Bangkok’s oldest neighborhoods, with roots going back over 200 years to the early Rattanakosin era. The name translates to "Betel Market," because the area was once filled with betel nut plantations and traders who sold them here at this market. While the betel trade is long gone, Talad Phlu remains a living slice of old Bangkok—home Thai Chinese communities, the iconic railroad, and of course famous Thai street food!
Talat Phlu Beef Noodle Soup (ต.จันทร์เพ็ญ เกาเหลาเนื้อเปื่อย ตลาดพลู https://maps.app.goo.gl/Gx7iCbDXn7NDyGFGA) - We’re starting with beef noodles at a legendary place near the market. Price - 100 THB ($3.05)
Talad Phlu Sweets Shop (ขนมหวานตลาดพลู https://maps.app.goo.gl/aj2j8uUuxCs7UbwJ9) - If you loves sweets, don’t miss these unique and amazing Thai desserts. Total price - 76 THB ($2.32)
Fish Maw Soup (ร้านกระเพาะปลา https://maps.app.goo.gl/AsBaULHVf4DHqN4VA) - Although it’s mostly pig skin, it’s a soothing and simple dish that eats like a porridge. Price - 50 THB ($1.53)
Pennywort Juice, Price - 15 THB ($0.46)
Auntie Kia Gui Chai (เจ้เกี้ย ตลาดพลู https://maps.app.goo.gl/Qgjf2fydmktoEdqx7) - You can’t miss gui chai, or chive dumplings when you’re at Talad Phlu. Price - 35 THB ($1.07)
Sarinthip Thai Khanom Beuang (สรินทร์ทิพย์ ขนมเบื้องไทยตลาดพลู https://maps.app.goo.gl/EsozeQpQy1GA9wsk7) - Legendary Thai sweet crepes you have to try. Price - 60 THB ($1.83)
Khanom Beuang Youn SuApa (ขนมเบื้องญวน สุอาภา https://maps.app.goo.gl/irTD3h5pvnt6s2s59) - This Thai street food stall has been open for generations serving Vietnamese style crispy crepes. Price - 120 THB ($3.66)
Duck Yong Hui (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวเป็ดย้งฮุย https://maps.app.goo.gl/j3BzoUR4Co347xFh9) - This was the best find of the day for me, you have to try their Dry Suki - 70 THB ($2.14) and their Braised Duck in a pan - 120 THB ($3.66).
And we completed the challenge to eat all day and ended up with just 6 THB ($0.18) to spare!
