A Dying Mall in its Final Days: Tour of The Beautiful but dead MacArthur Center Norfolk, VA

(June 2026) This is an absolutely gorgeous mall. Sadly it is about to be demolished. It was built in 1999 as a Taubman Mall. This mall like most downtown malls sadly failed. A mixture of things led to its demise. The retail apocalypse of the late 2010s, Crime, The pandemic, having to pay for parking, online shopping. As beautiful as it is, it just is not sustainable as a mall. This mall featured many signature Taubman elements such as the beautiful glass elevators, the fountains, and the skylights. Sadly to get this video, I had to argue with security and get the police involved. This took over an hour. Normally a mall is private property therefore you would have no First Amendment rights, however at the time of this shooting, the mall was owned by the government so I had every right to film here and was eventually allowed to by the Norfolk Police who did a great job dealing with the ignorant security guards.
