Description
This week, we take on one of the biggest challenges of the Wespe restoration — the original 1944 ZF transmission.
Every part of this gearbox matters, and the goal is to make it usable again.
We start by removing the clutch, which—miraculously—is in perfect condition.
The transfer case looks good too, though it shows some heavy wear.
But when we open up the gear-selector linkages, we discover something worrying: years of rusty water trapped inside the casing…
This is Part 1 of the transmission teardown — and Friday’s follow-up episode will reveal just how deep the damage goes.
Filmed at the Australian Armour & Artillery Museum.
