Why farmed animals face legal animal cruelty

Almost all animals born into our food system face painful surgeries and mutilations. Chickens have their beaks trimmed, cows have their horns removed, piglets have their tails and teeth clipped and sheep have their tails and the surrounding skin removed. All of this is often performed without any pain relief and it is all perfectly legal.
