It is written all over his face, his bleeding, maggot-filled face, and just typing that makes your stomach twist. But imagine living it. Imagine being the one walking around with that kind of injury, with flies landing on you, with infection eating away at tissue, with the smell of decay following you everywhere, and still having to keep moving because the street does not stop for suffering. Rescuers’ helpline got a call from a local who spotted Drake stumbling around, weak and on the verge of collapse. Drake’s right ear had a wound that had been left without care for so long that it started to decay. That is how the flies got in. That is how maggots happen, not because a dog has a wound, but because no one treated it, no one cleaned it, no one gave him relief, and his body was left to break down in public. Rescuers do not know how it started. Maybe he was hit. Maybe an infection spiraled out of control. But they do know he has been suffering long enough for it to get to this point, and he did not deserve that. And as if that was not enough, the doctors also noticed a lump on his lower chest that needs to be tested. Drake is hurting, and right now he needs full emergency care, not just for the maggot wound but for whatever else is happening inside his body. His rescue team has started treatment. They are working on cleaning the wound, removing what can be removed, and getting ahead of infection.
